Chesterfield 2s vs Grimsby 1s
After losing a few players early Saturday morning to the 1st team chesterfield 2s took to a sun drenched st Mary’s for a relegation battle encounter just 1 point ahead of the opposition with 3 games to play, the result could prove crucial in stopping up.
Grimsby had a bit of travel chaos in arriving to the game but in upbeat spirits took to the pitch as soon as they arrived at st Mary’s.
Chesterfield started brightly and as a wave of green took siege on the Grimsby defence, the keeper held firm and some bad decision making kept the score to 0-0 in the 1st 10 minutes.
The breakthrough came as Matt Pickford converted a short corner, and soon after Ben witts slotted home the next from the top of D.
Chris Cowley was pivotal in everything chesterfield did going forward and was rewarded with a goal of his own.
In the second half Callum Taylor converted another short corner slapping it into the far corner before he was taken down in the D and awarded a flick which he converted into the corner of the net.
The vocal crowd on the sideline was jubilant as Charlie Nixon struck to make it 6-0.
Then the goal of the day Chris cowley went in a wonder run taking on numerous opposition players before lifting it to Callum to volley home for his hat-trick.
The Grimsby team was one of the most pleasant opposition to play at st Mary’s this season and it was a game played in a great spirit despite it being of importance to both clubs.
