It was a tough trip up to Whitley bay for the lads, we were met with a team that had a great understanding of each other and could work the ball round the back and create pockets to capitalise on. This led to an early lead for Whitley bay ,but on the next possession a well slotted goal by Freddie Ormerod left the Whitley bay keeper embarrassed.
After this Whitley bay got in a rhythm netting multiple goals before the end of the half despite the lads fighting well in their one on one battles. At no point did we as Chesterfield let up and stop making drives up the pitch. After a few very unlucky plays in the oppositions D meant the score remained the same. Despite this as a team after dropping a few goals behind we rallied to a point where Ben Truby knicked one past Whitley bays keeper at the near post and awesome run done purely of instinct to bag his first Men’s goal.
After a few harsh calls from the umpires and errors at the back led to a further goal for Whitley Bay bringing the score to 5-2, but in the dying moments of the game Tom Collier finally scored a short corner after labelling himself a specialist after coming to join the team for the season from New Zealand. This brought the final score to 5-3 , which could have gone either way with both teams have chances in the final third with both teams really digging in towards the end in a well fought battle.
