A fell fought battle at fortress St Mary’s
With mixed weather conditions saw Chesterfield take on Marton Furness. The first part of the game was all Chesterfield’s who had the majority of possession and a number of chances. One came the way of veteran forward Jack Hartley who tucked it away with pure class as he usually does. Chesterfield continued to dominate however a lapse in concentration and a Marton Furness counter saw them gain a penalty corner from which a straight strike levelled the game at 1-1. Chesterfield continued with the ever so famous words from Skipper Rob Cooke ‘next job’ and battled it out until half time.
The second half started and the boys set out with fierce determination however Marton Furness scored early on to make the scores 1-2. Chesterfield picked their heads up and returned to dominating ways with stand out midfielder Ryan ‘Bendy’ Speed wreaking havoc in the middle of the park bringing Cameron Taylor and Dan Caron into the game causing damage down the wings. A series of continued pressure awarded Chesterfield with a short corner from which Jack Hartley was able to turn in from close range. A loud roar from the lads and travelling fans urged Chesterfield onward however the scores ended 2-2 from a very well battled game.
