And just like that this year's Hockey Heroes course is coming to a close. Wednesday 7th May is the last of the 8 planned Hockey Heroes sessions, and is on at the usual time of 6-7pm at St Mary's school.
The kids have really enjoyed it this year, with both new and returning heroes, all making the most of the glorious stretch of weather we've had.
Chesterfield HC has decided to offer out 2 x BONUS Hockey Heroes sessions for this year's graduates as a means of keeping the kids interested (no pressure!) in the game. These sessions will be on 4th June and 2nd July, 6-7pm at St Mary's School. The idea is to keep the kids engaged up to the end of school term roughly. There is no cost for these, and for any of this year's cohort, if you want to make use of the session, please just come along and join in!
Following Hockey Heroes, there are a number of Under 8s mini tournaments coming up in the next few weeks with local clubs running and organising these, as follows:
These are ideal introduction to game play and I'd encourage any of this year's Hockey Heroes kids to get involved and give it a go to at least one of these tournaments. The only difference from HH is that the players will need to have their own gum shield and shin pads for these, as harder (and smaller) balls and sticks are used - we can provide sticks for them to use. To get involved, please contact Paul Speed on 07879 412746 .
Some people might be wondering what happens after Hockey Heroes and maybe how to join junior hockey. If that's the case then please read on!
Our junior hockey runs from roughly September to March, in line with school term through to the Easter break (whenever that falls). We have discounted rates for Hockey Heroes graduates - please check your email or get in touch with Steve/Paul to find out more.
Otherwise, training for junior hockey is on Wednesdays from 6-7pm as it was with Hockey Heroes and again at St Mary's. In addition this leads on to matches at U10 and U12 levels in subsequent seasons.
Junior training will restart with schools in September, so please check the club website or social media for details of precise timings!
From Chesterfield HC we really hope the kids have enjoyed their Hockey Heroes experience, regardless of whether they want to continue it or not, as the ultimate goal is for them to have FUN!
