Hartley hat-rick secures CHC M1's another win, as Dukes is crowned king of assists

A late pushback in Leeds saw CHC mens 1st team pick up another 3 points to move up to 2nd in the league.

Chesterfield started the game well with good control and possession of the ball in the opening exchanges, and the visitors' patience was rewarded after 10 minutes with a nice attack down the left. This attack ended with Harry Dukes feeding the ball to Jack Hartley, who kept his composure well in front of the goalkeeper, just delaying the shot slightly to work a better angle before slotting the ball nicely in the corner.

Ollie Addy whose pace was causing lots of problems for the Leeds defence, then forced a second goal about 10 minutes later when he broke through the midfield line, and squared the ball across goal, only for a Leeds defender to kick the ball into his own goal. 2-0.

Leeds then came back into the game during the last 10 minutes of the first half and were rewarded with a goal from one attack; a through ball into a central area of the Chesterfield defence, on this occasion finding a Leeds forward unmarked who swept the ball home. Tom Grocock in goal then made 2 or 3 good saves during this period of the game to keep the visitors in front, and allow Chesterfield to reach half time and regroup, with a 2-1 lead.

The second half began with both teams pushing for another goal, but it was Chesterfield who struck first, managing to convert a well worked short corner routine with skipper Jack Hartley deflecting the ball nicely in off the far post. 3-1.

The men in green then started to take control of the game with a neat move finding Louis Johnson unmarked on the far post, and although perhaps not getting the cleanest strike on the ball, looped a shot nicely into the far corner which the Leeds goalkeeper could do nothing about.

A tired Leeds defence failed to match the fitness of Chesterfield in the last 10 minutes of the game, and with 3 minutes left on the clock Hartley finished a brilliant passing move to score a fantastic team goal, and on a personal level secure his hat-trick.

Player of the match was deservedly Harry Dukes who was involved in several goals and 3 assists with his unselfish and intelligent passing in and around the Leeds goal.

This result moves Chesterfield M1s up from 3rd to 2nd in the table, closely on the tail of Sheffield University Bankers. Next weekend, Chesterfield will face University of Leeds M1s at home where they will hunt for another 3 points, in their race for the Yorkshire Division 1 title.
