Chesterfield Men's 1st team finish 2025-2026 season in style with 7th straight win.

Chesterfield Mens Hockey Club hosted visitors Brigg for their last game of the 2025-2026 season in the Yorkshire North-East Mens Division 1. Having narrowly lost the away fixture to Brigg back in November, Chesterfield were keen to turn things around for the return encounter at home.

Following a recent winning streak of 6 on the bounce, Chesterfield were once again quick out of the blocks moving the ball at speed and looking dangerous on the attack, with Jack Hartley smashing one against the cross bar 5 minutes in, before converting his 2nd opportunity with just 10 minutes on the clock.

Chesterfield continued to dominate possession in the first half, and it was Josh Beardsley who provided the next significant moment in the match, finding striker Ollie Addy with a defence splitting pass, before Addy clinically fired home on the backhand to make it 2-0.
Chesterfield looked comfortable for the remainder of the first half with their own goal rarely threatened, although in attack Chesterfield wasted 2 or 3 further opportunities to add to the scoreline and make the game safe.

The second half was not as easy for Chesterfield who seemed content to retain possession for periods of the match without offering much of a threat going forwards. This pattern of play proved costly when visitors Brigg pulled one back just after half time following a poor clearance in the Chesterfield defence, and a clinically taken chance by a Brigg striker. The momentum was now with Brigg, and they equalised 5 minutes later from a neatly taken penalty corner to make it 2-2.

The Brigg equaliser sparked a reaction from Chesterfield who responded well, and again started to create some attacks with midfielders Jonty Duffy and Cameron Taylor in particular looking threatening. Following one of these attacks and the award of a penalty corner, Chesterfield produced a slick routine slipping the ball to Jack Hartley who smashed home for Chesterfield’s 3rd goal of the match and his 20th of the season, giving Chesterfield a 3-2 lead with about 15 minutes left to play.

The final stages of the match were managed well by Chesterfield, looking solid in defence with player of the match Will Beardshall in good form, and also in attack Chesterfield created further opportunities, most notably with midfielder Sam Gower shooting agonisingly just wide of the post.

The final score was Chesterfield 3-2 Brigg, and this result gave them their 7th win in a row to leave Chesterfield a creditable 7tih in the league table, achieving their objective of retaining Yorkshire North-East Division 1 status, following their promotion last season.
