What followed was a fierce, end-to-end battle with both sides pushing hard and testing each other’s defences. Sheffield came close to equalising with a dangerous deflection inside the D, but a brilliant save from Regan kept Chesterfield ahead. Knowing the importance of a second goal, Chesterfield pressed on, and in the 34th minute Callum Taylor produced a moment of brilliance. Latching onto a rebound, he fired a reverse volley under the Sheffield goalkeeper to double the lead in style.
At half-time, inspirational words from captain Matt Drohan and coach Jack Hartley set the tone for the second half. Chesterfield came back out determined, absorbing Sheffield’s pressure with a resolute defensive display while continuing to threaten on the break.
Sheffield’s frustrations boiled over as they pushed higher up the pitch, leading to a green card after a foul on Sam Gower. With the man advantage, Chesterfield won a penalty corner — calmly converted by Callum Taylor for his second of the match. Confidence growing, Chesterfield continued to dominate, and on the 60 minute mark, captain Matt Drohan got on the scoresheet to put the result beyond doubt.
Sheffield managed a late consolation in the 64th minute, but Chesterfield saw out the closing stages with composure to secure a commanding 4–1 victory — their first win of the season.
