The Chesterfield 2nd XI rocked up on a sunny Saturday, after wise words from their fearless captain we were ready for the battle to bring intensity and pressure.

After all this, the 2s found themselves having a slow start with the Dragons piling on the pressure. This was soon relieved by a smart pass from Beardsley which was received and calmly buried by returning debutant Johnson as he rounded the keeper to slot home for 1-0.

Another slick passage of passing play from Grant, Beardsley and Johnson found McCollom’s reverse stick cross where Beardsley was bitten by the dragons as he attempted to convert from close range to win a stroke. Our fearless leader the Hunter gatherer stepped up and converted as cool as a cucumber. 2-0.

The troops rallied together at half time and discussed some tactical changes. This quickly paid off as a scrappy corner was eventually smashed into the side netting by veteran Beardsley. 3-0.

The Hunter Gatherer then got booked for playing the wrong sport. ‘Intentionally’ kicking the ball to stop a Dragons counter attack saw him see the sin bin for 2 long minutes where the Greens weathered the storm well.

The Dragons were now feeling the heat from the Greens and started to get themselves into the game with some counter-attacks which created some half chances and when forced into action Regan swept up nicely.

The Chesterfield pressure finally told when Beardsley got his second after a winding run from the halfway line resulted in him finding the bottom left corner on the reverse. 4-0.

The Greens kept up their spirits with Kennerley, Cooke and Wright who swept up at the back allowing some great midfield runs from Edward’s which gave him some chances to further capitalise on the goals.

The final cherry on the cake came from a run from Beardsley who skinned the defenders to find Johnson who tapped in on the back post, I’ll let you decide if he poached it or not. 5-0.

The fans went wild and the chants ‘mauled by the greens’ came from the Chesterfield ultras.
