On a rainy, windy afternoon at the Fortress St Mary’s the men’s 2s gathered together with spirits high from 2 wins on the bounce looking to make it 3.
The Hunter Gatherer and Rob Cooke rallied the lads together and the game begun. It was a mix of back and forth action with the Greens looking most likely to score the first goal. With pressure mounted the young Evergreen Noah Bingham converted from a Cowley run where he took on 3 players and found Noah at the back post. 1-0.
Shortly after Cowley received a ball from veteran Grant where he rounded the keeper to make it 2-0.
A series of domination in midfield from Grant, Barrett linking up lovely with fullbacks Cooke and Wright allowed Chesterfield to find Cowley at the back post. 3-0.
With the scoreline getting to their head, Chesterfield had a lapse in focus with a lot of passes finding Doncaster or the sideline. This riled up the team as they conceded a short corner which was struck underneath birthday boy Regan, earning him another dirty pint as punishment. 3-1. Half time.
The halftime team talk was mainly focused about not losing our heads and taking pride in playing.
Doncaster came out firing with the Greens still not getting focus however some great tackles from Wright, veteran Kennerley and Regan sweeping up allowed the greens to consolidate and start finding their feet again.
A great series of wing play from Hooper and Montford found Noah at the baseline who lifted the ball to plague ridden Johnson who slotted home. 4-1.
Soon after, In true Scholes fashion Cooke found a 53 yard pass to Johnson, through on goal who attempted a reverse dink on the goalie, saved, the ball fell straight at the forwards feet who elected to SMASH the ball top bins into an open goal, however the ball found the corner flag… oh dear.
Further domination in midfield found the famous 14, Taylor who squared the ball to the P spot where Johnson slotted it bottom corner. 5-1.
The Greens quickly found their form and the midfield kept piling pressure from their 16s with Grant, Barrett, Hooper and Wrigley controlling the play. Taylor attempted to claim a goal with a deft touch and Shearer celebrations, however he was nowhere near it. Now the rain was coming down heavily.
Ultimately, the game ended 5-1 and the famous 14 had no goal. The lads go to Lindum away in high spirits next weekend.
