Chesterfield 2s arrived promptly for an away trip to Lindum. The morning was glorious with the rising sun shining bright on the Cathedral towering over the pitch. The team spirit was high following a succession of wins.
The game starts, and it was back and forth for the majority of the first half. With the Greens looking the stronger side. Nothing else came from the first half.
At half time the theme was taking pride in your pass and playing the easy ball.
The greens transferred the ball for the first 5 minutes when man of the match runner up Cooke miss trapped the ball at LB, from a bobbly wobbly knee height special from the Hunter Gatherer. This spurred Lindum on who attempted to take control of the game.
Half way into the second half, Beardsley like a little ballerina picked the ball up from his own half, carried the ball up the pitch, taking on multiple Lindum players, to link up with young winger Bingham, who returned the ball back to dancer to slot home. 0-1.
The Greens continued to put Lindum under pressure, with groans from Cowley and Johnson, or perhaps their hamstrings, as yet more balls found their way off the back of the pitch.
With 10 minutes to go Barrett found Johnson who played a delightful ball back to him, putting him 1 v 1 with the Lindum goalkeeper, looking certain to score, HE COULD NOT MISS HERE, slotted the ball wide. The scoreline remained 0-1 to the Greens.
The lads soon caught on that there was not long left and so kept the ball in the corner and attempted to retain the ball. With some last ditch efforts Lindum didn’t manage to capitalise on the frantic attempts for Chesterfield to hang onto their lead.
The game finished, and was a great smash and grab win for the Greens. Adele remains the changing room post match anthem.
The lads ship themselves back to Chesterfield, chauffeur driven in Swedish style in the Volvo XC40 ready to support the men’s first team.
