Chesterfield 3s faced the team they pipped to the league title last season. Before the game, there was much discussion about which Anderson had the tightest shirt, and why. How much Prozac Hooper had taken after last week’s mini spat, and how apoplectic with rage (mildly annoyed) was McCormick with his description as ”weary legs of veteran sweeper”.
The match started with lots of possession for Rotherham, without much threat. Chesterfield worked hard, defence of Goodear, Anderson’s, McCormick and Johnson made sure that Rotherham were restricted to few chances, whilst chesterfields midfield, marshaled by the hard working Ryan, tried to feed the chesterfield attack. 0:0 at half time was fair.
The second half started in much the same way, chesterfield worked a couple of short corners, one resulting in a great save on the line from the Rotherham defender, the other when Morris nearly slotted following the initial shot hitting the post.
Rotherham eventually made greater possession count, a reverse flick from the penalty spot putting them in front with 10 minutes left, and a breakaway goal giving them breathing space.
The game was played in great spirit by both teams, whilst the standard of hockey from both teams was average, at best, the effort was first class. With a little more passing skill , chesterfield should soon get their first points, that there efforts deserve
