On Saturday the badgers took on Sheffield University Bankers development team at Saint Mary’s school.

Congratulations to all the parents who braved the cold drizzle to support the team! I think the performance brought some sunshine to the day.

The team delivered a great result through some solid defending and incisive attacks.

We soon started to dominate the scoreline with a smart finish by Ted, a solid strike from the edge of the D by Aqeel, and a close range finish from Oscar.

Hallam pulled a goal back before halftime, but we went into the break with a 3-1 lead. For the second half we let the kids play and gave the adults a break.

We played well in the second half. Without the adult support we had to defend more, but all our players were up to the task. Sam scored a good breakaway goal and Oscar bagged his second goal - both his goals came from assists by Alex.

Oscar was desperate to get a hat-trick and came close on a couple of occasions only to be denied by the Hallam keeper.

The game finished 5-1 to the greens. In fairness, the scoreline probably doesn’t reflect how well Hallam played. It was a close game and we took our chances well.

Orla produced a courageous display in goal - the Hallam coaches said how well she played. Flo, Cole, and badgers debutant Ellie, were solid in defence. Aqeel, Sam and Ted worked well to protect the defence. The midfield of Zach, Harrison and Theo linked up well, with Oscar and Alex leading the attack.

Thank you Colin, Paul, Clayton and Martin for turning up on a cold day - sorry you didn’t get so much time on the pitch.

The team has progressed so much this season. From some earlier matches with our aims of having a shot, to today where we have scored 5 and worked amazingly well as a team. Well done everyone.

Player of the Match today was Oscar - thoroughly deserved for his well taken goals. Hopefully Oscar knows by now - he left before the vote!
