CHC u14 v Doncaster HC u14

On a crisp autumnal Sunday morning Chesterfield girls u14s were keen to continue their unbeaten run in the Yorkshire development league division two

Doncaster started on the offensive and put chesterfield under pressure in the first 10 minutes. Things started evening out and there were good passages of play in the middle of the park from both teams without many goal opportunities. The rotating Ruby, Macie, Millie, Chloe and Gracie all had to work hard to keep up with a powerful opposition.

Chesterfield then caught the opposition on a break and won a short corner. Great running from the Doncaster girls saw them close down the first attempt but from the resulting short corner a clever bit of play from Freya allowed Chloe W to find herself in a bit of space and slotted the ball home.

Doncaster instantly went back on the offensive and pushed us hard for five minutes. The Chesterfield defence, particularly Kitty, Penny, Emilia and Alex were resilient and when Doncaster did find themselves with a goal scoring opportunity great goalkeeping from Kaitlyn kept them out. Driving runs from strong Doncaster midfielders were starting to hurt The home side and numerous short corners were awarded. On one of these occasions a great strike from Doncaster was superbly deflected by Kitty around the post for a long corner. Runners from the midfield continued to cause Chesterfield problems, however the defence stuck to their jobs and Kaitlyn made numerous strong saves.

26 minutes in and chesterfield were unable to hold out when a ball broke free in the D and a powerful slap from 10 yards out saw Doncaster draw level.

Another breakdown in Chesterfields D saw an un marked Doncaster player slot in at the far post 1-2.

Chesterfield finished a half strongly the couple of good attacks down the right, Esme, Freya and Leila all worked hard but we’re unable to level up the scores before half-time.

The second half started with both teams trying to dominate play. Chesterfield relying on the passing game and Doncaster relying more on strong runs through the midfield.

Chesterfield we’re starting to get their left hand side working with Freya and Chloe M showing some great skills.

55 minutes in saw more a good saves Kaitlyn but Unfortunately on one occasion we were unable to clear our lines and again Doncaster score. This fired Chesterfield up a saw us play some of best hockey and we were able to put Doncaster under pressure for the first time in the second half.

Both teams worked hard in the midfield and whilst there were a few more breaks late on into the second half neither side were able to convert possession into goalscoring opportunities.

Whilst it wasn’t the result Chesterfield wanted it was a good game and the girls will have learnt a lot from competing against a very strong Doncaster side.
