Sunday 20th November - Yorkshire Youth Hockey League

Chesterfield's U10 girls contingent made the trip up the wet M1 and M18 on Sunday morning and were greeted by unexpected dry weather and good conditions! With a squad of 8, all the girls got plenty of pitch time and rotated the substitution to give everyone a breather.

First up the girls played local rivals, Sheffield HC. The girls won by 1-0, the goal scored by Angelica, in a close affair but with plenty of opportunities falling to Chesterfield.

Next up the girls faced the host team, Doncaster HC. This game was end to end. Doncaster had chances, but they were snuffed out by the defence and our goalkeeper, Orla. It finished 0-0 but in truth could have gone either way.

The third game of the morning was against Rotherham. The team really started to "click" and put together passes and worked well together. The winning goal came from Ophelia "Phe" who was so surprised by scoring a goal she forgot to celebrate.

In the final game of the morning session the team played against Chapeltown. In this game we were able to play all the girls as the opposition had plenty of subs available. Perhaps against the run of play, Chapeltown went on the attack and scored a nice goal against Chesterfield. The goal conceded motivated the girls into action, and their attacks were relentless. Electra scored a hatrick and Phoebe also scored to make it 4-1 to Chesterfield.

So overall a very sucessful set of results, with 3 wins and a draw.

Most pleasing to see was the improvement in all the girls playing ability as a team. They all contributed, tackles were made, lots of running, passing much improved and of course, lots of smiles!

Squad: Orla (GK), Phoebe, Electra, Angelica, Ginny, Sofia, Harmony, Ophelia.
