What a game! After going into half-time 1–0 down, Chesterfield came out firing in the second half to secure a brilliant 5–1 win against Harrogate!

The first half was evenly matched, with Chesterfield putting Harrogate under pressure through a strong press led by Beth and Linz. We created plenty of short-corner opportunities but just couldn’t find the finish. Harrogate threatened on the counter too, but some excellent defending and brilliant saves from Katie kept the score close.

Harrogate eventually took the lead around the 25-minute mark, capitalising on some hesitation at a short corner. Chesterfield were frustrated by the decision, feeling the whistle hadn’t been clearly heard, but the team regrouped and kept pushing. A short corner then resulted in a penalty flick for Chesterfield, but unfortunately Nuala’s effort pinged off the post!

Ella and Ruth continued to create space with clever runs and passes, while Freya, Lucy and Elise formed a strong defensive line and helped launch some great counter attacks.

Half-time: 1–0.

After some sweets and a positive team talk from Ella, the Chesterfield positivity switch was officially ON!

The second half started with a bang. After a disallowed goal from Chloe, another short corner followed, and Linz made no mistake with a powerful straight strike.

37’ | 1–1

Just two minutes later, Chesterfield were ahead! Linz and Loz linked up brilliantly with some strong 1–2s before Loz played the ball across goal for Beth to finish.

39’ | 2–1

And from there, Chesterfield were flying.

A relentless press won the ball back, the midfield worked hard to move it forward and Beth found Chloe with a brilliant ball across the goal for another strong finish.

50’ | 3–1

Macie and Millie were causing problems out wide with fantastic runs and deliveries, while the whole team continued to work together to create chance after chance.

The fourth was a proper team goal, with the ball travelling through several players before Meg brilliantly ran it around the baseline and found Beth on the P spot. Beth finished with a lovely dink.

55’ | 4–1

Harrogate continued to battle and created a dangerous counter, but Chesterfield stood strong. And there was still time for one more…

Another short corner saw Chloe inject to Nuala, who unleashed a powerful slap into the bottom-left corner.

62’ | 5–1

From 1–0 down to 5–1 winners! What a second-half performance from Chesterfield.

A fantastic team effort with strong defending, relentless pressing, clever movement, great passing and some excellent finishing.

When Chesterfield switch on, we are HARD to beat.

What a way to finish massive effort from everyone!
