A massive team effort from start to finish

Chesterfield W1s v Lindum W2s

It was a hard-working and determined performance that saw Chesterfield come away with a well-deserved 6-2 victory over Lindum in a game that demanded plenty of grit, resilience and teamwork.

It wasn't always pretty, with a few scrappy passages and some tricky touches along the way, but Chesterfield showed exactly the attitude needed to get the job done. Strong defending, relentless work rate and a real desire to fight for each other proved just as important as the goals.

CHC got off to a flying start, taking the lead after seven minutes when Fisher reacted quickest to a rebound off the Lindum keeper, firing home with a slap. Lindum managed to level the scores three minutes later, but Chesterfield responded brilliantly.

At 12 minutes, Kenney restored the lead with a well-struck penalty corner, before doubling her tally just two minutes later with another excellent effort from the top of the D, again from a penalty corner.

Chesterfield continued to put Lindum under pressure and at 17 minutes, Davies got on the scoresheet, expertly finishing off Gregory's signature drive into the circle and strike to make it 4-1.

The first-half scoring was rounded off in style at 22 minutes as Kenney completed her hat-trick. A fantastic carry from Scolyer along the baseline created the opportunity, pulling the ball back perfectly for Kenney to find the back of the net.

Despite the healthy lead, Chesterfield knew they still had plenty of work to do. Kendellen (C) kept the half time talk positive, praising the hard work of the squad. Going into the second half, the focus was on moving the ball around quickly and staying patient for the opportunities to come.

The second half required just as much determination, with the defensive unit made up of Mycroft (GK), Kendellen, Oliver, Thring & Scolyer putting bodies on the line and supporting each other to keep Lindum at bay. Lindum managed to find the net again in the 53rd minute, but Chesterfield remained composed and continued to battle.

Some excellent carries forwards from Saunders, Walton & Elliot kept the pressure building. Penalty corners and penalty strokes won by CHC were well defended and cleared by Lindum, but CHC kept pushing to increase the scoreline.

At 63 minutes, the pressure finally paid off as the home side added another to the tally with a goal from Witts at 63 minutes - a great assist from Elliot took the score to 6-2 which carried through to the final whistle.

A massive team effort from start to finish, with everyone playing their part in securing a fantastic 6-2 victory!

The girls look ahead to next week away at Leeds HC, who are currently sat 5th in the YNE Yorks Division 1 table, whilst freshly promoted Chesterfield HC are 4th.
