Saturday’s home games was full of new beginnings. It was the first game of the new season, first game at home and first match in Chesterfield ladies 2’s new league after being promoted as champions last year. Their first opponent was Brigg 2 who finished third in 2025/6 season. Both teams started brightly with plenty of action in both Ds, with great interplay between the midfield of Kara, Nic, Nehir, Lauren, Sam and Jen. Chesterfield had some excellent attacking play with chances flashing past the mouth of the goals and shots stopped by the Brigg keeper. Time and time again the Chesterfield defence sent balls up the pitch to the forwards Jasmine, Abi L and Esme to start a fresh attack. Brigg also had some shots which were saved by Chesterfield excellent keeper Lauren. The first half ended all square with both teams having equal opportunities on goal.
The second half started with the same intensity with Brigg having much of the possession in the first ten minutes leading to their first goal, slipping around Lauren who had slid in for the save and through Emma C on the line. Chesterfield refused to phased and began a new attack straight away. With a run down from the pitch from Lot, who passed it into the D to Jas, a quick pass to through to Abi L who promptly slotted the ball through the keepers’ legs to score for Chesterfield. The score was level after twelve minutes of the second half. The rest of the half Chesterfield continued to absorb the pressure by Brigg thanks to the solid defence of Holly, Abi G, Emma and Anna. With ten minutes left in the half Chesterfield, not happy with a draw, held possession and had many attempts on goal including a brilliant run by Loz into the D to gain a short corner, with two minutes left of the match. The subsequent corner went wide of the post and the final whistle was blown. A fantastic performance by everyone and a draw to start the new season.
There were votes for Emma, Loz.W, Nehir and Hol but with some incredible saves, POM went to Lauren, the dancing goal
