The sky is blue, the sun is out and Chesterfield Ladies 2s were ready to take on Sheffield.

With only 5 minutes to warm-up, the team was on and in formation. The whistle blew and they were off. Chesterfield had repeated attacks all to no avail but were keeping strong on the defence. Sheffield had a couple of chances but Chesterfield used the slight bounce on the pitch to their advantage, picking balls out of play.

A series of play from Abi through to Nic led the ball up the wing with a clear path to the D but unfortunately, it was cleared. Several balls were fired into the D from the 16 yard hit with multiple connections taking place but Sheffield were quickly on it. Alex had two superb efforts on goal, one going just wide and the other just slightly too far out of reach for Nic.

An open play approach gave Sheffield the opportunity to strike and the ball was slipped past Loz. The half time whistle blew, the sweets were passed and Emma led the talk with some excellent feedback.

In the second half, Sheffield used their number of substitutes to their advantage whilst Chesterfield grew tireder but still, they battled on. Esme, Abi L and Jasmine all made their runs into space to confuse the opposition whilst Sam fought in the middle to win every ball. Kara and Anna held the left side strong and interrupted attack after attack. Nehir’s position throughout the second half was impeccable with tackles and non-stop tracking putting a stop to their attack.

A few short corners in succession led to a flick after hitting Abi’s foot on the line. There were no qualms with the ability of Loz’s saving skills and she saved the flick with no issues. Another short corner came and Sheffield slipped it past Chesterfield to make it 2-0.

With only six minutes to go, Chesterfield were awarded with a short corner. With a clean, straight strike, Holly landed the ball in the bottom corner to make it 2-1.

A final short corner for Sheffield saw a failed attempt to push the ball out and it was quickly turned over. The final whistle blew and it was a quick change to get off the pitch before being flooded by the water sprayers.
