And the win did come :)

And the win did come :)

The break did us good!

After a two week break, the 2s made the journey to Chapeltown who were sitting at the top of the league.
From the off, there was end to end action with Chapeltown sending some strong balls down the pitch but with tight marking at the back from Em, Anna and Abi G, Chapeltown were unable to get any shots on goal and challenge Loz. Following a couple of positive attacks, about 20 minutes into the game, Chesterfield broke through.
Holly sent a long corner out wide to Abi G, who powered the ball into Abi L who struck the ball cleanly through the keeper's legs.
Not long after, a similar build up lead to another goal for Chesterfield, this time Sam being the one to slot the ball over the line.
Clearly not used to being on the back foot, Chapeltown responded immediately with two quick goals before the half time whistle.

The half time talk was positive. The aim was to keep our heads, continue working hard to track back, mark tightly and make it difficult for Chapeltown to play their game while building on the positive attacks in the first half.
Mission accepted and then accomplished!
The second half continued in the same manner as the first. Roadrunner Meg tormented the midfield and defence with her, speed, agility and tenacity, distributing the ball in all directions. In her first game back since becoming a mum, Kel held the ball strongly in midfield before sending balls wide to Nic who fired some troublesome balls into their D. Unfortunately Chapeltown were able to scrappily get them away.
With only 5 minutes to spare, and with Alex closing down a hit out from the Chapeltown defence, a short corner was won by Chesterfield. Knowing the clock was ticking, the 2s knew they had to capitalise on the opportunity. Emma injected the ball to the top of the D to Holly who powered in a shot. The ball was temporarily cleared, and fortunately fell nicely for Abi L to take a swing and the sound of the ball hitting the backboard was soon overpowered by cheers.
Keeping tight and holding their nerve to the very end, Chesterfield came away with their first victory of the season. This also signalled the last game for Emma as captain as she passes the baton to Holly. What a way to bow out!
POMs were awarded to Loz, Abi.L, Nic, Roadrunner Meg with POM being awarded to Sam :)
