Being slightly off their usual Saturday schedule did not seem to phase the Chesterfield ladies 2s as the team rocked up to play Grasshoppers (Sheffield) 1 on Sunday, playing away for their last November game.

Chesterfield had a flying start with an early goal from open play in the first 5 minutes of the game, scored by Jodie from a Nehir assist.
The home team then turned the tables with a speedy break into the Chesterfield D and piling on the pressure with a series of short corners. They managed to score the equalising goal from one of these corners to leave the score at 1-1 after only 10 minutes.

Chesterfield then started to pull ahead with the second goal coming soon after. A lovely passage of play from Heather, Nic and Jodie down the right wing, with Jodie sending a powerful cross into the D for Gracie to finish with a push over the line for a 2-1 lead to Chesterfield.

In response Grasshoppers managed to win another series of short corners which were successfully kept out thanks to brilliant defending by Nic, Sam, Holly and Alex L and awesome goal keeping by Loz. Further dominance up the right wing helped keep Chesterfield pressing for another goal. Accurate and controlled passing, explosive bursts of speed in the middle by Alex, Abi L and Nehir and an unnecessarily heroic dive from Abi G kept possession firmly with Chesterfield. The third goal quickly came from the hard work in centre field from Abi L who distributed the ball out to the wings and followed up with a goal scoring position and a tap of the ball crossed from Jodie for Chesterfield’s third goal shortly before half time.

Into the second half it was Grasshoppers who started with pressure on the Chesterfield team with another series of short corners.
Grasshoppers’ drilled short corner routines ultimately paid off as they managed to sneak through the Chesterfield defence to score two early second half goals to bring the score level to 3-3.

Chesterfield however did not let this phase them and turned tactic to distribute more out to the left for Sam, Alex and Flo to switch play and enter the attacking D from the left, winning a short corner from which Abi G scored from a straight strike, restoring Chesterfields lead 4-3.

Going into the last 10 minutes of the game Chesterfield continued to find gaps in open play with Flo controlling the game in the middle to distribute the ball across the field.
The final goal came from a stunning pass from Abi to Jodie who converted in clinical fashion to leave the final score, 5-3 to the triumphant visitors

Player of the match votes for Loz Abi L Abi G, Nic and Heather but with 5 votes each the joint players of the match were Nehir and Jodie.
