Chesterfield Ladies 2s came into the game full of confidence following an excellent performance and victory against the league leaders the previous week. With the sun shining and a high-quality warm-up completed, the squad were in a positive mindset and ready to carry momentum forward.
The opening stages belonged firmly to Chesterfield. For the first ten minutes, the home side pinned Sheffield deep in their own half, showing fantastic ball transfer and composure in possession. The use of triangles across the pitch allowed Chesterfield to move the ball quickly and effectively, while strong communication and teamwork ensured defensive solidity whenever possession was lost.
That dominant start was rewarded on 7 minutes when a superb ball from Kel split the defence, allowing Jodie to finish confidently and give Chesterfield a deserved early lead. The goal perfectly reflected the pressure and quality of play shown in the opening stages.
Sheffield responded with a goal on 12 minutes, levelling the score against the run of play. Chesterfield remained composed and continued to trust their structure and style, and their persistence paid off on 25 minutes when Abbie G found the back of the goal after a well-worked move involving Kara to restore the lead.
The remainder of the first half saw Chesterfield continue to press, with excellent support play across all lines and a collective defensive effort to limit Sheffield’s chances.
In the second half, Chesterfield stepped up another level. The link-up play continued to shine, and the pressure eventually told on 62 minutes when Jodie set up Abbie G for her second goal of the game. Just six minutes later, Kel and Kara combined after a short corner rebound, and Kara finishing confidence to extend the lead to 4–1.
Chesterfield managed the remainder of the game well, showing maturity and discipline to see out the result. The defensive unit worked tirelessly, supporting one another and shutting down Sheffield’s attacking threats, while the midfield continued to dictate play.
Captain’s Comment:
“Hi guys!! Wow. What a game. That first 10 minutes was glorious. We kept them down there and frustrated them, and it resulted in an amazingly worked goal. I hope you all see how far we’ve come from the beginning of the season — we can only go up from here! We’re doing so, so well and I’m excited for the rest of the games this season.”
