On a wet, rainy Saturday Chesterield ladies 2s took a short trip up the bypass to play top of the league, a difficult game ahead.

As a result of injuries and concerts Chesterfield had a slightly different line up this week, but Captain Holly gave the squad a motivational team talk in the changing rooms and the team was raring to go when the team got to the pitch, a.k.a the beach.

Sheffield started strongly, but the attack of Gracie, Abi, Nehir and Flo put pressure on the defence, forcing them to play it around the back.

Sheffield continued to attack, keeping the defence of Anna, Emma, Holly and Sarah very busy and Loz made some cracking saves in goal. The defence was finally broken with a great strike from Bankers.

The second and third came quickly after, but Chesterfield didn’t give up and continued to battle hard and the midfield of Kara, Nic, Jen, and Freya worked it down the wings, will a couple of entrances into the Bankers D

Unfortunately towards the end of the first half we lost Nic to a hamstring injury, wishing you a speedy recovery.

At half-time Chesterfield spoke at focussing on tight marking and using the width after the break, along with a change in formation to allow for additional support in Midfield.

Sheffield came out hard, but Chesterfield kept their shame, having some great transfers round the back from Emma C out to the wings of Kara & Jen.

Half way through the second half Sheffield scored 2 further goals, but Chesterfield kept going and going and were rewarded with a goal of their own from a short corner injection, an assist from Kara to be put in the back of the net by Centre back Emma C.

A great team effort, resulting in multiple players receiving man of the match nominations. This week’s man of the match was a 3 way tie between Nehir, Gracie and Emma C. ??

Chesterfield 2s now have a 2 week break, so time to rest up and regroup ready to go again.
