A cool, foggy morning quickly turned into a pleasantly warm day as Chesterfield 2s stepped up for their final match of the season. Having already defended their position in the new league, the 2s were feeling great going into this last game, and it showed. Right from the starting whistle, every player gave their all, fighting for the ball at every opportunity and not giving the opposition an easy time.

The first beautiful sound of the ball hitting the backboard came from Abi L, assisted by Jodie, as cheers roared around the pitch. Not too long after, goalie Loz, perhaps already thinking about the post match pint, let an easy save slip past her, bringing Grasshoppers level. Not to worry though, as some incredible running from Nehir, Alex, Nic, Loz and Freya pushed the 2s forward again. Soon enough, they were on their way to goal number two, with a great pass from Nehir and a cracking finish from Lindz.

The defence were fierce, rejecting attempt after attempt from Grasshoppers, who just couldn’t break through the incredible work from Emma, Holly and Sarah. Just before the halftime whistle, Kara made a perfect pass to Jodie, who happily slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 3–1 to Chesterfield.

After a positive team talk with great feedback from captain Holly (and the team), the 2s were raring to get back on the pitch and keep pushing, maybe even eyeing up that top goal scorer spot. Grasshoppers weren’t happy with the score line and pushed hard, but were met time and time again by Chesterfield players shutting down every attempt.

Finally, towards the end of the match, Lindz slipped the ball through to an eager Abi G, who smashed it home to seal the final score at 4–1 to Chesterfield 2s.

What a great end to a great season for the Chesterfield 2s. Led brilliantly by Emma C at the start of the season and then passed on to now captain Holly, who has been fantastic in her new role, bringing positive vibes and, of course, always looking good in her trusty sunglasses.
