It’s that time again; the start of the season! This Saturday saw the W2s travel to Doncaster on the day of the 250th anniversary of the Doncaster races of all days.

The match started great and both sides had fantastic chances. There were great uses of the width and the team really utilised the triangles which were practiced during Tuesday’s session. The highlight of the first half was the effort put into the W when pressing the opposition’s 16 yard hit. There was a great press from the forward and Florence took the ball around the keeper and unfortunately ran out of pitch before getting the reverse slap off.

Half time saw 0-0 and the 2s were raring to go again. An expert passage of play saw Nic pass the ball to Esme who scored her first goal in front of her proud Dad (you can see his reaction on the socials). The team fought hard but Doncaster made some brilliant breaks forward which converted into 2 goals within 7 minutes of eachother.

The game ended 2 goals to Doncaster and 1 to Chesterfield W2s but plenty of positives were taken from the match. Even the severe queuing from the races didn’t dampen their spirits.
