Chesterfield Ladies vs Sheffield W4

On a showery Saturday morning, Chesterfield Ladies made the short trip down the bypass to Sheffield W4, with both teams starting brightly and enjoying spells of possession.

Sheffield were first to break the deadlock, capitalising on a rapid counterattack down the left to take an early lead. Chesterfield responded positively, refusing to let the goal affect their momentum. The forwards, Flo, Esme and Jodie, worked tirelessly, chasing every ball and putting pressure on the Sheffield defence.

The pressure eventually paid off when Flo did brilliantly to keep the ball alive and win a penalty corner. Following Kara’s assist, Abi G found the back of the net after several excellent saves from the Sheffield keeper to bring Chesterfield level.

Neither side was satisfied with a draw and the game continued at a fast pace, with both teams attacking and counterattacking. The midfield of Nic, Kara, Chloe M and Sarah worked tirelessly to keep Chesterfield moving forward, while Charlie’s very vocal instructions kept the team organised!

Despite Chesterfield’s efforts, Sheffield managed to outnumber the defence and regain the lead before half-time.

Following some positive words from Rob A and Charlie at the break, Chesterfield came out for the second half with renewed determination and a clear desire to get back on level terms.

The defensive unit of Sam, Anna, Abi G and Emma B worked incredibly hard to keep Sheffield from extending their lead, while Chesterfield continued to create opportunities at the other end. Kara came agonisingly close to an equaliser, with her shot missing the target by just inches.

Despite Chesterfield’s relentless effort, the second half ended goalless, with every player giving 100% right until the final whistle.

A huge well done to Emma Binns on her Ladies 2 debut -a fantastic achievement!
