Chesterfield lost heavily away against Rotherham 2s, but after a slow start they made it challenging for the opposition in the second half.

After a two week break from hockey, Chesterfield player's mind's must have been elsewhere as the game got underway on Saturday at Sheffield Hallam University Sports park. Rotherham burst Chesterfield's bubble with some quick and incisive attacking play. Rotherham scored goals at ease as they raced into a 7-0 lead by half time. Chesterfield looked stunned for the first 15 minutes where they leaked 5 goals, before composing themselves and starting to string passes together. Captain, Emma Mycroft, called for more urgency on the ball at the break and so it was that the team performed much better in the second half. Youngsters, Millie Saunders, Chloe Witts and Chloe Mills linked up well in attack and caused much greater problems for Rotherham. Chesterfield's chance of the game came from a long clearance from the back. The ball looked to be going out of play, only to be chased down by Chloe Witts, who robbed the defender and crossed to forward, Nicole Tacey. Unfortunately Tacey's shot was saved by the Rotherham keeper, but it was enough to cheer the Chesterfield team. Rotherham did score two further goals in the second half, and Chesterfield had 'keeper Katie Lord, to thank for keeping the score so low, pulling off a number of remarkable saves.

3rd team Captain, Emma Mycroft had this to say about the game "That was a really tough first half, but we found our feet in the 2nd half with only 2 goals conceded !! Well done to everyone involved, not just for today but for the effort and spirit shown throughout the season.

Talking about the captaincy she said "it’s been a pleasure to captain the 3s this season, I couldn’t have asked for a better team !!!"
