Chesterfield U16 boys were in action today in Round 1 of the U16 boys Plate knockout competition.
Hosting West Midlands club - Bloxwich U16 boys, Chesterfield started in assured fashion moving the ball around nicely in the opening exchanges, with both defensive units looking very solid and difficult to break down. As the half progressed, a few chances did start to come with Bloxwich coming close on a couple of occasions, and also Chesterfield with Charlie and then Daniel coming very close to breaking the deadlock. Despite these chances, the first half ended 0-0.
Chesterfield began well in the second half with the midfield starting to gain the upper hand and create some good attacks. About 10 minutes into the half, one of the Chesterfield attacks resulted in a penalty corner, and although the routine didn't go to plan, Ieuan kept his composure well, to send a powerful dipping flick flying home and give Chesterfield a well deserved 1-0 lead.
Not content with the their 1 goal lead, Chesterfield continued to push forward and enjoyed further attacks against Bloxwich. For the second goal it was Ieuan involved again, this time driving forward down the right hand side and into the Bloxwich circle, before passing nicely to the far post for Seth to smash the ball home and make it 2-0 to Chesterfield.
After going 2 goals behind, and with only about 15 minutes to go, Bloxwich then gave everything to try and get back into this closely contested Cup match. During this period of Bloxwich dominance, Ali-Sher in the Chesterfield goal made 3 or 4 fantastic saves to keep the visitors out, although eventually they did manage to pull 1 goal back after an attack down the Bloxwich right flank.
Chesterfield then managed the closing stages of the game well to finish deserved winners and go into the 2nd round draw, after a very hard earned victory and collective team effort.
