5. Death of Bob Battye

£2,300 raised for Junior Hockey in Bob's memory

Bob did so much for our Club and County over the years.

He joined the Club from Loughborough Colleges after he’d graduated. He rapidly established himself in our 1st XI along with the County 1st XI and it wasn’t long before he captained both sides – and played representative hockey for the Midlands.

He played as 1st Captain for many many years, helping the Club firstly to strengthen and grow with fixtures against some of the best that Yorkshire and the North Midlands had to offer and then to consolidate the 1st XIs position in the second highest league in the Midlands with the introduction of League Hockey.

He was a major contributor to the Club also in other ways –
• through his positions on the Club’s General and Selection Committees, again for many years.
• through his support for mini-hockey and in the original “Badgers” team
Another significant contribution was to provide two sons, Fraser and Christian, both of whom developed to be excellent hockey players and now, in Christian, at the top level in hockey coaching.
There is so much more we could write about Bob and so many of our members, past and present, will have been touched by his influence and always in a positive manner.
We offer our most sincere condolences to Josie, his partner, to Fraser and Christian and their families.
